Saturday 10th July:

All the way from North Carolina USA - John Chasteen

Chasteen’s music is hard to pigeonhole.

You could definitely call it acoustic, though he normally plays plugged in.
You could say it's traditional, though he freely innovates.
You could say it sounds country, except that his right hand is doing
something more South American.  You could say he sings with a Southern twang,
except when he sings in Spanish.

He likes songs with social, historical, and political content,
such as the "Ballad of General Taguba"
(who blew the whistle on Abu Ghraib)
but he writes love songs, too.

Okay, the brief description . . .

How about Woody Guthrie meets Atahualpa Yupanqui?
(If that means anything to you.)

Labor songs, songs with political messages.
A lot of folk standards, old ballads, that kind of thing.

And early Dylan, from the 1960s.
