About the Somerville Arms
The
Somerville Arms is a thriving, busy, drinkers pub. The pub is named
after a Captain Somerville who was a local magistrate; his wife opened
the Jephson Temple. The first known record for the pub is in 1868
when the landlord was a Richard Uscombe. Little seems to be known
of the early history, but John Chater who ran the pub from 1969 to
1999 told many interesting tales about the recent past. The pub at
one time had a glass canopy at the front which explains why it is
now set back from the main building line. It's railings only survived
the war because they were necessary to prevent people falling down
the cellar drop. In 1956 two of the three rooms were knocked together
to form the large front bar. The smoke room (Lounge) was redesigned
in 1973.
The current licensee is Paul Blatchly who, with his wife Kay, welcome you.

What our Customers say:
• "Visited the Somerville recently.
The lounge now has a very effective smoke removal system. There are
seven real ales. Folk music first Friday of the month."
• "Been to Leamington quite
a lot and always rated this pub, glad to see it hasn't changed."
• "The best pub in Leamington
for beer with 7 well kept cask beers and often a guest ale."
• "A brilliant, unspoiled
local pub. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and a terrific
range of 'real' beer. Great for a decent pint, a quiet chat with
friends, or just to be left alone to 'chill out'! One of only a few
pubs of this type left."
• "An excellent pub which
always makes both locals and visitors welcome. Promotes community
activities and is a popular spot for Morris Dancers!"
• "A pub with character,
and friendly characters on both sides of the bar. How often these
days can you go on your own to a pub that is not your local and be
made to feel welcome by both the publican and the locals? The Somerville
is such a pub and has retained these qualities."
• "Brilliant Boozer! Excellent
Beer. Good Company."
• "This is a real drinkers pub!
Very friendly landlord and staff, super bitter and famous for its
mild. Seems to be busy any day of the week with lots of chatter and
friendly banter from the locals. The sort of pub where everyone is
welcomed and involved."
• "Just to let you know
that I used to be a regular in 1973 when we all lived in student
accommodation! I called in again last Saturday lunchtime and the
smoke room hasn't changed
at all. It brought back a lot of great memories." |
